Interfaith Encounters - General Study Sessions

Islam and Peace - Tel Aviv Youth Interfaith Encounter on 9 May 2006:

The Tel Aviv Youth Interfaith Encounter welcomed on Tuesday, May 9th, two guest lectures who came especially from Turkey, representing the Science and Research Foundation, founded by the Islamic thinker Mr. Harun Yahya. For Dr. Octar Babuna and Dr. Omer Ilicalli it is already the second program held with this interfaith encounter group at the Tel Aviv University.

The theme this time was "Islam and Peace". All three Abrahamic religions teach peace and an attitude of merci and compassion to the other and active care for his or her well being. The Koran, as the Torah, says that anyone who kills one soul it is as if he killed the whole world and anyone who saves one soul it is as if he saved the whole world.

Terrorism, as an approach that targets civilians and aims to destroy peace, does not come out of any religion but is a result of the ideologies that came from social Darwinism and the racism that followed it – Nazism, Communism and Capitalism. This approach teaches that struggle is a must and only the strongest wins and survives.

The so called "Islamic terrorists" are not really motivated by Islam and lack real Islamic education. Rather, they are influenced by these ideas that falsely make them think that they have to fight and if they will be stronger they will win and achieve their goals. Of course: when we come to learn what is true Islam we can not follow the acts of individual Muslims here or there, as it might very well be that some Muslims do not truly follow Islam. The only source to know what true Islam is – is the book, the Koran.

The basis for peace between the three religions is their common principles of faith – in God, prophets etc. – which is more significant than the differences in the details, and their joint struggle against Darwinism and its derivatives.

Following the program, some of the Muslim participants invited the two guests to join them for the Magreb Prayer at the Tel Aviv University Mosque. They gladly agreed and two of the organizers were privileged to walk with them, meet, after the prayer ended, the Imam of the Mosque and members of the local community and inform them about the Interfaith Encounter Association.
