Karmiel-Majd el-Krum Interfaith
Encounter - 4 Encounters on November and December 2007:
Breaking the Fast Together
In an encounter that took place in A-Sallam School towards the end of
Ramadan, participated children from both schools: Kalanit and A-Sallam. The
day was designated for six graders and nearly 150 students took part in it.
In the beginning of the encounter the religion teacher Nader Taha explained
the importance of the fast of Ramadan and the Muslim rules of fasting, meant
to feel the hunger of others and inspire helping them.
After the children heard the call from the Mosque for the breaking of the
fast they set together around tables, read together a prayer and ate a joint
meal. Then the teachers created parallel groups where they answered
questions about fasting for Muslims, Christians and Jews.
The Day of a Hundred in 1st and 2nd Grade
This day that was held in A-Sallam School with participation of teachers,
students and parents – from both Majd el-Krum and Karmiel.
The students went through different stations where they fulfilled
assignments related to the number 100. They heard from the teachers a short
presentation about the number 100 and how many times it is mentioned in the
Koran, with examples of verses that include the number 100. During that day
they learned mathematical thinking and were exposed to the principles of
mathematics.
The goal of this joint encounter was to develop strong ties between little
children who will grow loving each other and building joint citizenship.
Two Days Around Electricity
The first day took part in Kalanit School with the participation of 5th
graders from both schools. The guides from the Electric Company presented
the children with the variety of services provided to the wide public.
On the other day, that took place in A-Sallam School, the guides explained
to the 5th graders about the right and wise use of electricity and how to
keep ourselves from the danger of electrocution as our soul in the most
important gift we got from God.
At the end of the day appreciation certificates were presented to the
Electric Company representatives for their contribution.
