Three Encounters of Karmiel-Majd
el-Krum Interfaith Encounter in November 2007:
Opening of the Year Session
On November 25th a meeting took place with the two Principles – Ms. Najeeba
Sirhan of A-Sallam and Ms. Osnat Aram-Daphna of Kalanit. The objective of
this meeting was to summarize the work done so far and to draw conclusions
following receiving the international prize Women’s Peace Initiative Award
of the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding – in Sarajevo for
the joint team work for bringing the hearts closer together between the two
peoples. We stressed that we got the prize thanks to the hard work of the
teachers, working with faith to build joint Arab-Jewish existence.
And first and foremost – we got the prize thanks to the Interfaith Encounter
Association who gave us a unique opportunity to feel the real appreciation
to our work.
Team Meeting
On November 26th we had an enlarged meeting of the two teams – from A-Sallam
and from Kalanit. They worked in pairs, of teachers – one from each school,
and planned together activities that are suitable for the different age
groups. We agreed that beyond the joint interfaith study days we will also
hold:
Joint excursions;
Joint sports day;
Fun day with music and dances;
Producing a CD with songs in the three languages;
Science teachers planned meetings in Technoda on the theme of space;
History teachers planned an inter-cultural meeting on Arabs and Jews in the
area;
Mathematics teachers planned a joint day for fifth graders on November 30th.
Joint Mathematics Day
From among fifth graders of the two schools, Kalanit and A-Sallam, we
selected students who have difficulties in Mathematics. A joint Mathematics
day was held in A-Sallam School in Majd el-Krum with the goal to give an
opportunity for joint study and group success to the students who had
difficulties, out of the basic assumption that every student can learn
Mathematics. At the end of the day every student got an evaluation
certificate reflecting his or her joint work and success.
