Interfaith Encounters - General Study Sessions

Hanukkah - Two Encounters of Karmiel-Majd el-Krum Interfaith Encounter Group, on December 2007 and January 2008:

With the approach of Hanukkah two joint encounters were held:

The first encounter too place on Wednesday, November 28th, at Kalanit School, and was an encounter of work-teams who planned the interfaith work for the year in general and for Hanukkah in particular.

The encounter was opened by Osnat, the Principle of Kalanit School, and by Najeeba, the Principle of A-Sallam School, who greeted the two teams and shared theit experiences from the award ceremony they had in Sarajevo. Osnat and Najeeba stressed that the award is really for the two teams who lead the schools towards joint citizenship through the joint encounters they hold for years.

Then we gathered in working teams according to age levels and parallel theme teachers and we planned two encounters at least for every age group.

After we finished this work, each working team wrote on a candle their expectations from the coming year and its encounters and we created a multi-candle Hanukkah Lamp.

In the end of the encounter we had refreshments prepared by the Kalanit team, including of course the special Hanukkah jelly doughnuts.

The second encounter was held on Sunday, December 2nd, where the two levels of fourth graders met at Kalanit School.

In the encounter we explained, in both languages, the customs of Hanukkah. Then we created spinning tops of different materials and went to play with them in mixed small groups.

The encounter ended with doughnuts and was very joyful.
