Interfaith Encounters - General Study Sessions

Arabic Speaking Interfaith Encounter on 4th July 2007:

Our last encounter took place on July 4th 2007 at the home of our friend Yaffa Rotstein, with nine educators from the three faiths of the sons of Abraham.

Two special elements make this encounter group unique: its participants are connected to the circles of education and they all accepted to run the encounters by using Arabic only.

There are two official languages in the State of Israel: Hebrew and Arabic. It seems important and valuable to enable interfaith dialogue in Israel through the use of both these languages.

The group works under the "umbrella" of the Interfaith Encounter Association, and as such – as one of the Cooperation Circles of URI.

The encounter dealt with questions of education in our contemporary era, including analysis, in Arabic, of events from the content and experience worlds of the participants. According to the opinion of the participants there is a wide common denominator among people of different faiths who deal with education, on it different components. As the Talmudic saying says: the foundation of the earth is one.

Due to the summer vacation and the Holiday Seasons we renew our activity this month, on November 21st at 16:30 in the home of the Alon Family. We will be happy to have with us both the old members of the group and new people. The theme for our conversation will be: between a job and a mission in education and teaching – also in light of the on-going strikes in this field in Israel, during the last few weeks.
